Introduction
Liberis is a UK-based fintech company offering funding solutions to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) through embedded finance. Liberis offers a unique revenue-based financing model that empowers businesses to secure funding based on future revenue projections. Unlike traditional loans, repayments are tied to a percentage of daily card sales or other income streams, offering flexibility that aligns with a business's cash flow.
Problem Statement
With the aim of establishing and scaling its India presence, Liberis sought to hire a Director of Engineering (DOE) and Site Head. This leader would play a foundational role in setting up the India tech hub and driving its 0-1x growth journey.
The mandate was to find a hands-on technical expert who could seamlessly bridge the India hub with Liberis’ global headquarter. This meant advocating for the India team within the broader company structure, and influencing key changes in workflows, policies and technical practices to support a globally distributed model operating across multiple time zones.
Beyond technical leadership, the role demanded operational and strategic ownership. The candidate would manage the India headcount budget and be responsible for building a scalable, sustainable hiring plan. A crucial part of the role also involved mentoring and inspiring engineering managers, ensuring they not only performed at their best but also embodied the core values and culture of Liberis.
Solutions & Execution
Understanding Liberis’ need for a dynamic and authoritative leader to spearhead their India operations, we focused on identifying a candidate with proven experience in building and scaling teams from the ground up. The role demanded more than just technical expertise—it required a seasoned professional who had navigated the complexities of growth and could effectively communicate with global stakeholders while demonstrating complete ownership of the India charter.
One of the core challenges lay in stakeholder management—aligning the newly forming India team with the established UK headquarters. This required a leader with a strong personality and the ability to operate autonomously while seamlessly bridging cross-continental collaboration.
Leveraging our proprietary Behavioural Metrics Model (BMM), we identified Prashant Pandey — a perfect combination of Creator and Nurturer fitment. He brought both the strategic foresight to architect the India tech hub and the empathetic leadership needed to scale forward sustainably.
We also provided comprehensive salary consultation based on real-time compensation benchmarks in India, ensuring Liberis made a competitive and informed offer. The entire process was completed within 30 days.
Way Forward
With a strong leadership foundation in place, Liberis is well-positioned to scale its India operations with confidence. As the firm's India tech hub evolves, Prashant, as a strategic hire, is playing a pivotal role in shaping its growth, culture, and global alignment.
