CodeRabbit, founded in 2023 as an internal initiative at FluxNinja, has rapidly scaled into a generative-AI platform with 900+ paying customers and thousands of daily users. Its product automates code reviews for GitHub and GitLab by providing real-time feedback, suggesting improvements, and generating test cases. The platform’s AI-driven review bot significantly improves developer efficiency and code quality.
The team at CodeRabbit was encountering backend-level engineering bottlenecks and needed stronger architectural consistency across systems. They were looking for a Principal Backend Engineer with extensive experience in fast-paced B2B environments, someone who could independently shape the backend foundation while building scalable, intelligence-driven capabilities. The ideal candidate had to bridge advanced system design with developer-facing product needs, enabling rapid iteration and higher-quality engineering outcomes.
Once the mandate was formalized, we aligned on the behavioral profile required for success: a Creator with Nurturer characteristics, as mapped through our Behavioral Metrics Model. This helped us quickly zero in on candidates who could thrive in CodeRabbit’s high-ownership, high-velocity environment. From the first curated batch of profiles, Tejas Venugopal stood out as the strongest match. Tejas has 12+ years of experience architecting and deploying large-scale conversational AI systems across companies such as Gupshup, AskSid.ai, and Mindtree. His background in building resilient backend platforms and leading complex engineering efforts made him an excellent fit for CodeRabbit’s technical depth and future direction.
As Principal Backend Engineer, Tejas will take on the design and development of advanced, intelligence-driven backend features, ranging from integrating language models into development workflows to building scalable algorithmic systems that elevate CodeRabbit’s code-analysis capabilities. He will play a central role in strengthening the platform’s backend architecture while enabling developers to work faster, smarter, and with greater accuracy.
