Strengthening Bhanzu’s Tech Backbone: Head of Technology Hired in 30 Days

Introduction

Bhanzu is a global maths learning platform providing a comprehensive education experience for students aged 5–15 through live online classes, AI-powered tools, and gamified self-learning. With products such as Bhanzu Buddy (AI assistant), Bhanzu Play, and personalised recommendations for practice and learning outcomes, Bhanzu drives long-term engagement and delivers meaningful results. Backed by a proprietary curriculum and strong unit economics, the platform currently serves over 50,000 students and is expanding into offline learning centres.

Problem Statement

Bhanzu needed a Head of Technology to chart the course for its upcoming tech initiatives. The role demanded a leader with deep AI/ML expertise and a strong product mindset; capable of championing the 0-to-1 journey while scaling from 1 to 10x and beyond. The ideal candidate should be young, dynamic, and architecturally strong; demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset. Cultural alignment was critical: Bhanzu wanted a mission-driven leader prioritizing impact over commercial ambition. The leader would need to combine strategic vision with hands-on execution, thriving in complexity and operating with a bias for action.

Solution and Execution

Purple Quarter partnered with Bhanzu to identify the ideal candidate for this critical position. Leveraging a meticulous search strategy centred on the Behavioural Metrics Model, we focused on young leaders with prior CTO experience who could foster rapid innovation, experimentation, and learning. Our search led us to Nitin Agarwal, a perfect match for the role.

With over 18 years of experience driving engineering innovation across early-stage startups and hyper-growth companies, Nitin stood out as the right choice. He has shaped and scaled engineering organizations and product platforms at leading companies including Curefit (Cult.fit), GO-JEK, Ola, Flipkart, and Yahoo. Additionally, he co-founded Pianta, a health services platform later acquired by GO-JEK. His profile reflects the quintessential BMM archetype of a Creator and Nurturer, aligning seamlessly with Bhanzu’s vision. From search to offer acceptance, the entire process was completed in just under 30 days.

As Bhanzu’s Head of Technology, Nitin will lead the company’s next phase of technological evolution. He will establish the foundation for future innovations, inspire and grow the technology team, and oversee end-to-end platform development from concept to delivery. Working closely with product and pedagogy teams, he will ensure that Bhanzu continues to deliver cutting-edge, student-centric experiences while remaining at the forefront of education.
