Established in 2014, MoEngage is a leading customer engagement platform that equips marketers and product owners with AI-driven insights and the tools to transform those insights into a seamless and cross-channel customer experience. Its comprehensive solution integrates advanced customer analytics, automated multi-channel engagement, and AI-powered personalization.
After successfully collaborating with Purple Quarter in 2022 for their VP of Architecture appointment, MoEngage turned to us again—this time to onboard a Head of Security & Privacy.
Problem Statement
As a customer engagement platform, MoEngage handles an extensive repository of user data, making security a critical priority for the company. The Head of Security was envisioned as a leader well-versed in compliance regulations, tasked with developing and implementing a strategic, long-term information security roadmap. This role would ensure the protection of the company’s and its customers’ information assets while adhering to diverse jurisdictional privacy and regulatory policies.
Additionally, the Head of Security would need to stay ahead of emerging threats and evolving vulnerabilities by actively monitoring industry trends and external environments. The leader would also be responsible for advising stakeholders on necessary measures and fostering a robust DevSecOps culture across the organization.
Execution & Solution
To meet MoEngage’s requirement for a B2B leader with extensive client interaction experience, we curated a shortlist of 5–6 candidates from our 10,000+ strong talent pool. Among them, Guru Patnaik emerged as the top choice. With over 17 years of experience, Guru has held leadership roles at Zeotap, Tink, and Embibe. His proven expertise in managing global clients and leading teams of 30+ members gave him an edge.
Leveraging our proprietary Behavioural Metrics Model (BMM), we identified Guru as a blend of Creator + Nurturer. His hands-on approach, combined with strong team management skills, perfectly aligned with MoEngage’s mandate. The entire search was successfully completed within just 1.5 months.

Current Scenario
As the Head of Security, Guru is now at the forefront of shaping and leading the security culture and practices at MoEngage. He is also playing a key role in expanding the security team, recruiting professionals from the app-sec and product security domains.
